Elections 2026 Cases from the voting machines’ internal logs

The “compasso” case

Consecutive votes (one after the other), with the same time. The same beat, the same “compasso”.

In this tab, each voter’s time is measured from another point. It runs from the moment the poll worker types in their voter ID until the next voter’s voter ID. The votes counted here are other votes, different from the ones we count in the “From vote to vote” tab. No vote from there comes in here: they are additional votes, which add to the ones from there.

From voter ID to voter ID

Each voter begins when the poll worker types their voter ID into the voting machine. It is the poll worker who releases each voter to vote.

  1. Voter ID typed in
  2. Deputy
  3. Governor
  4. Senator
  5. President
  6. Vote recorded
  7. Next voter’s ID

The time of each vote runs from the previous voter’s voter ID typed in to their own voter ID typed in. When that time repeats, second by second, vote after vote, the votes are in the same beat, the same “compasso”, now counted by the poll worker.

Other votes: no vote from the other tab comes in here

The vote right after each of them is also taken out. That vote’s time begins at the previous voter’s voter ID, which is already in the other tab, and passes through that voter’s recorded vote.

Where a vote is taken out, the run stops. It ends before it, and another one can only begin after it. A run is never joined across a vote that was taken out.

Example with 6 voters. Voters 3 and 4 are in a run from the “From vote to vote” tab. Here the times of 3 and 4 are taken out. The time of 5 is also taken out, because it begins at 4’s voter ID.

Consecutive votes with the same time from voter ID to voter ID, across all of Brazil

Coincidence is calculated the same way as in the other tab: the same times from each voting machine, only in another order, 20 times per voting machine (see how we do it). The votes that were taken out also stay out of the shufflings, and the runs stop at the same place.

The vote is secret: the voting machine’s log does not say who each vote in a run went to. That is why, below each row, are the votes for president of the whole voting machine, added up across all the voting machines in that row, from each polling section’s poll tape (boletim de urna). The candidates’ percentage is over the valid votes, as the TSE counts; that of blank and void, over all votes.

Two voting machines, line by line

The times below come from each voting machine’s log file, in the official TSE package. Highlighted, the votes in the run.

Coincidence, or an anomaly that casts doubt on the electoral system?
